  • July 27th, concession granted for Banco Mercantil de Monterrey.
  • November 16th, the constitutive act was signed.
1947
  • Foundation of Banco Regional del Norte.
1986
  • Merger of Banco Mercantil de Monterrey and Banco Regional del Norte to form Banco Mercantil del Norte (Banorte).
1992
  • A group of businessmen, led by Mr. Roberto González Barrera, acquires Banorte.
1993
  • Banorte acquires Afin Grupo Financiero.
  • Grupo Financiero Banorte is born.
1995
  • Banorte incorporates Bancentro, becoming a multi-regional institution.
1997
  • Banorte acquires Banpaís.
  • The Financial Group partners with Generali International, to operate insurance and pension funds.
1999
  • Banorte celebrates 100 years and the slogan "EL BANCO FUERTE DE MÉXICO" is created (THE STRONG BANK OF MEXICO).
2001
  • GFNorte acquires 100% of the shares of Bancrecer.
2002
  • The administration of Bancrecer was taken over, beginning its integration into the Financial Group.
  • The SHCP (Ministry of Finance and Public Credit) authorized the merger between Bancrecer and Banorte, with Bancrecer being the merging company and Banorte the  merged company, changing the name of the merging company to Banco Mercantil del Norte, S.A., Institución de Banca Múltiple, Grupo Financiero Banorte (Banorte).
2005
  • Alliance with Telecomm - Telegrafos to bankroll thousands of Mexicans.
  • The headquarters offices are moved to a modern building in Santa Fe, Mexico City.
2006
  • Banorte acquires Inter National Bank and the Uniteller remittance company in the United States.
2007
  • The United States Motran remittance company is acquired.
2009
  • The Afore business expands through the consolidation of Afore Ahorra, Ixe Afore and Afore Argos. 
2011
  • Fusion of Banorte and Grupo Financiero Ixe to become the third banking institution in Mexico.
2012
  • Banorte Generali merges with Afore XXI of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) to 50%.
  • The "Don Roberto González Barrera" Contact Center is inaugurated, coinciding with his death that same year.
2013
  • The Afore of BBVA Bancomer is acquired and Afore XXI Banorte consolidates its position as the largest fund manager for retirement in Mexico.
  • The acquisition of the minority participation of Grupo Generali in the insurance and pension companies is concluded.
2014
  • Marcos Ramírez Miguel new CEO of the Group.
2015
  • Carlos Hank González new Chairman of the Board of Directors.
2016
  • Corporate Restructuring: Creation of Banorte Ahorro y Previsión concentrating the Insurance, Pensions and Afore businesses.
  • Sale of Inter National Bank.
2018
  • Merger with Grupo Financiero Interacciones, placing us as the second financial institution in Mexico.
2020

2022

The SHCP (Ministry of Finance and Public Credit) approves the incorporation of Banco Bineo as a financial entity within GFNorte.

The CNBV (National Banking and Securities Commission) approves the bylaws of Banco Bineo.

2023

Approval from the CNBV (National Banking and Securities Commission) to begin operations of Banco Bineo.

2024

Launch of Banco Bineo.
