Monterrey, N.L., February 6th, 2020. Grupo Financiero Banorte, S.A.B. de C.V. (“GFNorte”), informs to the investor community that as part of GFNorte´s commitments to the environment and to society Grupo Financiero Banorte signed a contract with Thermion company, which will allow that 70% of the energy consumed as of the first quarter of 2021 will come from wind power.
The energy will be generated at the Delaro wind farm in Tamaulipas, will reduce more than half of Banorte´s emissions, representing around 45,000 tons of CO2e (equivalent carbon dioxide). These emissions are equivalent to giving 1,620 laps around the world in an average fossil fueled car or to capture it with 2.7 million trees.
The agreement guarantees energy supply to around 600 properties belonging to the Group, between branches and administrative buildings accross the country, including the Group's headquarters in Mexico City, and its Call Center in Monterrey.
With this contract Banorte is aligned with Mexico's commitment, as a signatory to the Paris Agreement, to reduce its CO2 emissions by 25% by 2030. It also contributes to goal number 7, "Affordable and non-polluting energy" and to goal number 13, “action for the climate”, of the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations.
This environmental initiative adds to the Group’s Sustainability strategy and to other initiatives such as the automatization of computer equipment in office buildings, waste management programs and sustainable mobility solutions for its employees.
